Huntsman22: I do admit that as much as I admire and enjoy all my Ruger Single-Sixes the fit and finish of the Colts is more impressive and endearing. I have some Colt New Frontiers in my collection and I will get them out compare fit and finish when I get a chance. It is probably not worth worrying about - or mentioning as it fits so perfectly and blends in perfectly. I found a Colt Peacemaker schematic somewhere and if I recall correctly the base pin had a reference number of "10" on that schematic.

I probably WILL keep searching for an original Colt Base Pin if such a thing exists - the Colt Company itself doesn't have any - I checked.Īnyway I am relieved to a very great extent finding this "replacement" part for a 51 year old pistol. I do NOT know how big a deal I should make over this "NEW REPRODUCTION" base pin but I am saving the receipt/packing list for the next owner.Īgain the pin fit PERFECTLY and matches the high gloss finish of the barrel perfectly - the frame is color case hardened. So there is that - I do NOT plan on selling the Colt pistol until at least July 2,022 when I turn 75 and have planned for some time to turn my large collection of collector guns and Hunting guns into cash for the VarmintClan. The "kicker" though - the "Packing List" denotes the "Base Pin" is a "NEW REPRODUCTION"!
#COLT SAA BASE PIN PLUS#
I assume the Uncle had removed the "Base Pin" to keep the numerous nieces and nephews they had from being able to fire the gun?Īnyway the search was on for a "Base Pin" which is the pin that retains the cylinder in the frame and around which the cylinder rotates.įinally after much searching I ordered a "Base Pin" from Numrich Gun Parts Corporation for $11.00 plus shipping/handling.Ī while back I got a notice that my order was received but there would be a delay in shipping for 2 more weeks due to I forget what.Īnyway today the Numrich part arrived and to my GREAT relief it fit perfectly and the beautiful little pistol is whole. It was PERFECT including the hang tags and extra cylinder and "extra Stag Grips" as marked on the box!ĮXCEPT it was missing what is called the "Base Pin"!Įfforts to locate the pin in the now mostly gone estate were unsuccessful. When I saw it back at home it was even more perfect/pristine than I had hoped for, in a 51 year old pistol (manufactured 1970!). Next time my wife traveled to the friends she paid for and picked up the pistol and brought it back home. I jumped on it as it looked mint perfect in the tiny pictures and the price was VERY motivating.
#COLT SAA BASE PIN SERIAL#
My wifes friend sent two phone text pictures of the pistol and its paperwork and of the original serial numbered box to my wife, and she showed me the pics and mentioned the asking price. Turns out that the Aunt's husband had preceded her in death and had left her an unfired, new in the box Colt Peacemaker 22/22 Magnum dual cylinder single action pistol. Several months ago my wife was contacted by a lifelong friend of hers that she was handling the estate of her now late Aunt's.
